World Suicide Prevention Day Webinar: Resources and Toolkits

UOK Brighton & Hove alongside our partners Rethink Mental Illness and Grassroots Suicide Prevention hosted a webinar aimed at ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’ on 10th September 2024 – World Suicide Prevention Day.

The webinar was set out with the purpose of inspiring individuals, communities, organisations, and governments to engage in open and honest discussions about suicide and suicidal behaviour. By initiating vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of understanding and support – because suicide is everyone’s responsibility. We particularly strove to start the conversation around suicidal ideation with groups who often fall through the net of care, focussing on the at-risk communities of ex-offenders, women and people with autism.

Brooke Joyce, UOK Partnership Lead on behalf of Southdown gave good insight into the partnership working and community approach to suicide prevention.

The session was chaired by Richard Tandoh, Expert by Experience at Rethink Mental Illness joined by:

  • Lourdes Colclough (Lourdes.Colclough@rethink.org) – Rethink Mental Illness
  • Rachael Swann (rachael@prevent-suicide.org.uk) – Grassroots Suicide Prevention
  • Gemma Bessant (gemma.bessant@rethink.org)  – Rethink Mental Illness
  • Wendy Robinson (Wendy.Robinson@rethink.org) – Rethink Mental Illness
  • Brooke Joyce (brooke.joyce@southdown.org) – UOK Brighton & Hove (Southdown)
