UOK Annual Report 2023/24: Key Achievements in Mental Health Support and Wellbeing

UOK Brighton & Hove have released their annual report which shows the growth of community mental health and wellbeing support services.

We are excited to share our 2023/24 Annual Report, reflecting on a year of growth and impact across Brighton & Hove. As the first mental health network of its kind in Sussex, UOK remains committed to supporting our community by providing accessible, inclusive, and free of cost mental health services.

This past year, UOK has worked alongside our 18 partner organisations in Brighton & Hove to support over 7,500 individuals. We offered a wide range of services, from peer support and employment assistance to bereavement care. Despite rising pressures such as increased demand and complex cases, we have continued to deliver free, tailored, inclusive services that meet the needs of the people we serve.

What We’ve Achieved Together:

  • 7,575 people supported through our partnership network, providing help when it was needed most.
  • £895K in financial outcomes for individuals through benefits, debt relief, and tax exemptions, helping to reduce the financial strain on vulnerable community members.
  • 6,119 people accessed psychosocial support, contributing to better mental health outcomes.
  • 2,500 one-to-one sessions delivered, both online and in person, ensuring flexible support options for all.
  • 129 people trained in Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention Awareness, and self-harm prevention, helping to build a stronger and more resilient community.
  • 21,711 visits to our website

We’re incredibly proud of the resilience and dedication shown by our partners throughout this year. From local events and outreach to collaborative projects, our combined efforts have strengthened the mental health and wellbeing of our community.

Expanding Our Reach into East Sussex

One of the most exciting developments of 2024 was the expansion of UOK into East Sussex. With Southdown leading the way, we’ve launched our East Sussex network this year. Over the next five years, we will continue working closely with more local organisations to broaden our reach and ensure mental health services are available to everyone who needs them.

Looking Ahead: Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams

As part of the Community Mental Health Transformation, UOK is preparing for the rollout of Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams in 2024. These teams will enhance collaboration between Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT), Primary Care Networks, and VCSE (Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise) Secotr making mental health services even more accessible.

A Special Thank You to Our Community

All that we have done wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible collaboration of our partners, staff, volunteers, and the community. Thanks to our Lead Provider, Southdown, for steering the Partnership. Whether through events, training, or everyday support, we’ve come together to make a real difference in the lives of thousands of people. We’re excited about what lies ahead and look forward to continuing this important work.
